On Monday, June 11, 2018 at approximately 12:33 A.M. Jasper County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint of a domestic battery that had occurred in the Wheatfield area.
Jasper County Sheriff’s deputy spoke with the victim who had been battered in her home. The victim had visual bruising and scratches on her arms and forehead. The victim stated that Michael Chavez, age 57 of Wheatfield, Indiana hit her head against the wall several times and physically took her phone while she was attempting to dial 911 for help.
Jasper County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to locate Mr. Chavez where the incident occurred and he was discovered hiding in the back yard of the residence. He was then taken into custody and transported to the Jasper County Law Enforcement and Detention Center.
Mr. Chavez is currently being held on the following charges: Strangulation, a Level 6 Felony, Domestic Battery with Prior Conviction, a Level 5 Felony, and Interference with Reporting a Crime, a Class A Misdemeanor.
ALL SUSPECTS ARE CONSIDERED INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY IN A COURT OF LAW.
