On Friday, February 16, 2018 at approximately 7:05 P.M. Jasper County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a reckless driver in a white Chevy S10 pickup in the area of State Road 10 and County Road 300 East traveling westbound.  A Jasper County Sheriff’s Deputy located the vehicle in the area of Wheatfield and State Road 49 and observed the vehicle leave the roadway almost striking several mailboxes.

The suspect vehicle was stopped in the area of State Road 49 and State Road 10 and the driver was identified as Alex M. Williams, age 20 of Wheatfield, Indiana.  Williams exhibited evidence of extreme alcoholic beverage consumption.  After completing the field sobriety testing Williams was taken into custody to be transported for a certified test.  At this time Williams became belligerent and physically resistive and had to be restrained and secured in the patrol car.

While enroute with Williams to the Jasper County Law Enforcement Detention Center the subject started striking the cage partition with extreme force and violence.  The deputy was forced to stop and address the violent action that was being created by Williams.  As the deputy worked to stop the hostile action Williams was able to grab the deputy’s hand and inflict deep scratch lacerations as he was being restrained. The deputy was able to calm the suspect and re-secure him and continue the transport to the facility.

Williams was charged with Operating While Intoxicated Refusal, A Misdemeanor, Battery Resulting in Injury to Law Enforcement, Level 6 Felony, Resisting Law Enforcement, A Misdemeanor, and Criminal Recklessness, B Misdemeanor.  After Williams spent the required detoxification period he posted a $1,255.00 cash bond.
