PRESS RELEASE
August 25, 2018
On Friday, August 24, 2018, at approximately 8:25 p.m. Keener Fire Dept. was notified of a residential structure fire onWhispering Woods Drivein rural DeMotte, IN. Multiple fire units, medics and Jasper County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the scene.
At approximately 8:33 p.m., arriving fire and rescue units found no fire was involved. However, a female victim was found at the residence, deceased. The scene was secured by law enforcement personnel and an investigation was launched.
A male subject who resided at the residence on Whispering Woods Drive was taken into custody by Jasper County Sheriff’s deputies due to evidence linking the subject to the deceased female victim. Two minor children were also taken into protective custody.
As the investigation progressed, all evidence indicated that the female was a victim of a homicide. Assisting at the scene were units with the Jasper County Sheriff’s detectives, Indiana State Police Crime Scene technicians and detectives and the Jasper County Coroner’s Office.
All names are being withheld at this time until notification of all family members has been confirmed. The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office wants to assure the citizens that no danger to the community exists from this incident and that the suspect remains in custody while the investigation continues.
