Recently the Jasper Co. Sheriff’s Office has received complaints of large farm implements and tractors causing traffic backups.  Most of this action is occurring on state highways such as U.S. 231, S.R. 10, and S.R. 14.

The Sheriff’s Office wishes to remind all motorists that many times large farm equipment has difficulty in finding places to pull off safely when meeting or being overtaken by traffic.  However, Indiana Code: 9-21-5-7 requires slow moving vehicles to move over to the right when able to do so safely.  When three (3) or more vehicles are blocked and unable to pass the slow moving vehicle shall give the right-of-way.

Therefore we want to make operators of the large equipment aware that they must yield when this back-up is occurring at the earliest opportunity. It is in the best interest of all citizens, if motorist and operators of the large machinery work together to move safely on our roadways.

The Sheriff’s Office wishes to thank the citizens in advance for their cooperation in this extremely important traffic reminder.
