On Monday, July 17, 2017 Lake County Sheriff’s Office was involved in a pursuit of a 2002 red Dodge Dakota truck traveling southbound on Range Line Road into Jasper County over the Kankakee River Bridge for traffic violations.

Jasper County Sheriffs’ Units, Indiana State Police Units, Demotte Police Units, and Lake County Units assisted in the pursuit, including a Lake County Helicopter, which ended in the area of County Road 1200 North and County Road 1200 West into a farmer’s field.  The truck was occupied by an adult male and female both of which were ordered to stop, however, both ran into a wooded area.  Officers pursued on foot and apprehended 36 year old Benjamin Eugene Fitch of Wheatfield, and later, Bonita L. Watkins, age 38 of Medaryville.

Keener Township Ambulance was contacted for both suspects who were treated for injuries, complaining of pain sustained in a minor crash with the vehicle while resisting. Both were transported by ambulance to Franciscan Hospital where they were treated and released to the Jasper County Law Enforcement and Detention Center.

Bonita L. Watkins was charged with Resisting Law Enforcement, Class A Misdemeanor

Benjamin E. Fitch was charged with Resisting Law Enforcement, Level 6 Felony due to the use of a vehicle

ALL SUSPECTS ARE CONSIDERED INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY IN A COURT OF LAW.
