On Saturday, May 13, 2017 at approximately 6:22 P.M. Jasper County Sheriffs’ Deputies responded to a domestic disturbance on Serenity Drive near Demotte, Indiana.  As Deputies arrived on scene they were met by multiple subjects standing outside of the residence.  Investigation revealed that at least one of the persons at the residence had been battered following a verbal altercation.

While attempting to determine the exact nature of the battery complaint it was discovered that a female identified as Brittany Peterson, age 26 of Chicago, Illinois had been accused of committing the battery and was also believed to be in possession of narcotics.  As deputies spoke to Ms. Peterson, she allowed the officers to search a book bag in her possession which was found to contain a syringe, along with paraphernalia associated with the use of heroin.  In addition, a clear plastic bag containing six capsules with a powder substance was found that when field tested was presumptive positive for heroin.

Officers were also informed that an active warrant was present on Ms. Peterson out of Cook County, Illinois and that the Illinois authorities would extradite on the charges.  Officers discovered that Ms. Peterson had brought a juvenile dependent to the location on Serenity Drive while being in possession of the controlled substance.  With this information Child Protective Services were contacted due to the nature of criminal activity with the child present.

Brittany Peterson was transported to the Jasper County Law Enforcement Detention Center and was charged with the following criminal offenses under a $12,500.00 Surety Bond:

Possession of Narcotic Drug, Level 6 Felony

Possession of a Syringe, Level 6 Felony

Neglect of a Dependent, Level 6 Felony

Possession of Paraphernalia, Class A Misdemeanor

Battery Resulting in Bodily Injury, Class A Misdemeanor

ALL SUSPECTS ARE CONSIDERED INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY IN A COURT OF LAW.
