On December 25, 2016 at approximately 7:12 P.M. Jasper County Sheriff’s Office received multiple calls regarding a blue in color truck all over the roadway causing multiple vehicles to take evasive actions on US 231 north of mile marker 205 on interstate 65. The Indiana State Police had also received calls of this vehicle striking another vehicle on I-65 south of the 205 mile marker.

The vehicle occupied by one male individual then pulled into a truck stop where individuals were attempting to remove the keys from the vehicle.  The driver of the vehicle exited the parking lot traveling northbound on US 231 at a high rate of speed.  A witness following the blue truck, noted the truck go left of center and leave the west side of the roadway at a high rate of speed, south of County Road 1200 South.

The blue truck, a 2002 Dodge Dakota, after leaving the roadway struck two trees killing the single occupant, 42 year old Russell W. Maddex of Rensselaer.

Assisting at the scene of the crash was the Indiana State Police, Jasper County Coroner’s Office, Remington Fire Department, and the Remington Ambulance Service.

Investigation will continue as to the cause of the accident.
